NYC Fundraiser

Achilles Ottawa is a club whose vision is to empower runners who are blind and visually impaired along with their guides in an environment of support. The club mirrors Achilles International, a non-profit organization formed by Dick Traum in 1983 which today has chapters and members in over 70 countries.  Achilles International supports athletes with varying disabilities.

A group of approximately 15 Ottawa runners who are visually impaired (along with their guides) will be traveling to New York City this June to take part in the annual Achilles International Hope and Possibility race. Our Achilles group consists of a wide range of athletes from beginners to Paralympians.

This 5 mile race through Central Park is an opportunity for our athletes to meet other runners who have disabilities. It will also be a first time experience for some to travel to New York City and take part in an international race.

Our goal is to travel from Ottawa to New York City as a team. We will be getting a charter bus and we hope to cover the cost of the bus. It is important to us to fundraise because our guides/volunteers give up their time to help us, we do not want them to have any expenses as a result of this trip. If we go above and beyond our fundraising goal, we will use the donations to cover other costs associated with travel, including accommodations.

We will be posting updates of our training as the campaign progresses and we will introduce some of our competing athletes and guides.

Thank you so much for your donations,
The Achilles Ottawa team
